The Dream of Israel. 70 Years And A Magnificent Expanse.
In 1867, Mark Twain visited the Holy Land and gave this report: “Israel is a desolate country whose soil is rich enough, but is given over wholly to weeds…a silent mournful expanse…a desolation…we never saw a human being on the whole route…hardly a tree or shrub anywhere. Even the olive tree and the cactus, those fast friends of a worthless soil, had almost deserted the country.”
In less than 70 years Israelis have transformed this country from barren deserts and a “desolate expanse,” into a country brimming with life, abundance, possibility and goodness. Economically, technologically, scientifically, academically, culturally, environmentally, militarily… Israel is a shining example of what is possible for a country, a people and humanity if you have a dream of a better tomorrow, a plan of how to make it happen, and the willingness and readiness to make it work.
In the words of Theodore Herzl, “If you will it, it is no dream.”
Israel is the culmination of decades, centuries, millennia of Jews who have dreamed of this reality and most of all who have, and continue to, sacrifice and work to make it a reality. If Twain could see Israel now, he would see Israel for what it has become, not a mournful, but a magnificent expanse and a dream come true.
Israel is truly a light unto nations and we at welaunch are committed to simply sharing this light with the world.
Happy Birthday Israel!
